Historic Magnolia Depot
Museum

There is no admission charge to the Depot Museum, however, the Historical Society accepts donations.

Most of the railroad relics are kept in the depot entry that was the waiting room. There are railroad lanterns, photos, a railroad crossing sign, a pot-bellied stove and other Railroad memorabilia.

Dr. James Maxwell Ware was a doctor in Mink, Texas in the early part of the twentieth century. The Historical Society had his home/office moved to the Depot Complex a year ago where it houses many of Dr. Ware's medical instruments, books, and family photographs.  The good doctor called on his patients on horseback and his saddle is displayed in the house near his display case. Dr. Ware moved his office to Magnolia when the town moved up by the railroad, so as to be near his patients.

Grogan Cochran Lumber Company came to Magnolia in 1924 and was in operation until 1960. Quite a few lumber company items are displayed in the Depot, including a time clock the night watchman used, coupon books that were used as money in the store, pictures, and an old ledger.

A display case in the Depot is dedicated to Buddy Dial, who played football for Magnolia High School and then went on to play football for Rice University.  He went on to play in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys.

Another local celebrity that you can still see around town has a display case dedicated to her.  Dorie Damuth is a long-time resident of Magnolia and this classy lady owns and operates The Flying D Texas Longhorn Ranch of Magnolia, Texas.  Dorie was Ms. U.S. Savings Bond during the Vietnam conflict, traveling throughout the states and making a name for herself.

Miscellaneous memorabilia from the town of Magnolia is in several display cases, including ration books from World War II.   A church bell that hung in the original Baptist Church at Mink, Texas, farming and ranch tools, railroad tools, a permanent wave machine, are all displayed in various areas of the museum - some hanging on the wall.  One area of the Depot is dedicated to the history of the Magnolia Independent School District with a school desk, photographs, and yearbooks.

As we continue to add historical memorabilia to the museum, we are looking to the future to expand our displays.  Our local history is an important part of our heritage and we want to share this heritage with future generations.  We welcome all to stop by the Depot and step back in time to see how far Magnolia has come.  The Depot Complex is open on the weekends and for special events.
